Healing Sisters

Monday, February 28, 2011 by Kristen Kemp 7 Comments

In 2009, I joined forces with Stacey Lannert to start a non-profit organization called Healing Sisters. I edit the website. I believe I can help Stacey help sexual abuse survivors.

On our blog, you can read about Stacey’s life as she recovers from years of sexual abuse. You can read other people’s personal stories of victory. You can see the power in sharing and supporting other people no matter where they are in their journeys.

We believe that every child, woman and man who suffers from sexual abuse shares a common bond, one of betrayal and suffering. By creating this community, we can survive–even thrive.

Is it too lofty of a goal to think we can change the course of sexual abuse in America? Can we do something to reduce its numbers? We hope so.

We believe if we communicate, we create. And we hope to create something amazing with Healing Sisters.

Breakfast at Bloomingdale’s

Monday, February 21, 2011 by Kristen Kemp 3 Comments

My favorite, most frivolous adventure inspired by my love of sewing. (Buy Breakfast at Bloomingdale’s here. Or here where you can read reviews.)

Kat’s come to New York City with a dream: to be a big fashion designer and to see her name on a label in Bloomingdale’s. When she was stuck Upstate, she imagined a city paved in Prada . . . but the reality wasn’t quite so fashionable. All she needed was a big move. There, she found friends to be made, boys to be flirted with, and amazements to be found. She only gets sidetracked when her hick boyfriend from home comes to the city to try to reclaim her. Will Kat finally find her place? Will she find the right people who have her back?

The Dating Diaries

Sunday, February 20, 2011 by Kristen Kemp 2 Comments

A book that was inspired by my hometown of Jeffersonville, Indiana, which is right outside of Louisville, Kentucky. (Buy The Dating Diaries here. Read more about it here.)

Ten dates. Five weeks. A buoyant and observant PUSH comedy about having a long-term relationship end — and discovering what life is like outside of it.

Katie James has been dating Paul for the past five years, since the seventh grade. Then, as the prom approaches, he dumps her. The last time she was on her own, she was wearing a training bra. Now she’s about to see what life is like without Paul — and what it’s like to date. She makes a resolution — she will date ten guys in five weeks, making up for all the time she wasted with Paul. But nothing goes quite the way she plans. Dating is difficult — and difficult can be both fraught and fun. Katie’s about to find out what she’s been missing…and how to be herself without a guy.

I Will Survive

Saturday, February 19, 2011 by Kristen Kemp 2 Comments

Writing this book was pure fun and excitement. It’s for all the times I wanted to take revenge, but of course, didn’t. (Buy I Will Survive here. Read more here.)

Poor Ellen. Her boyfriend is cheating on her … with her best friend. Her other (male) best friend is in love with her when he really shouldn’t be. Her beauty queen sister is on a rampage. And her mom is having an affair with one of her teachers. At first, Ellen wants to climb into bed and never get out again. Then she decides she’s not going to take this all lying down. She’s out for revenge — a very comic revenge, with some very unintended consequences. This is Fay Weldon for teens — a fun, sassy look at making it through high school with your heart in one piece.
