In 2009, I joined forces with Stacey Lannert to start a non-profit organization called Healing Sisters. I edit the website. I believe I can help Stacey help sexual abuse survivors.
On our blog, you can read about Stacey’s life as she recovers from years of sexual abuse. You can read other people’s personal stories of victory. You can see the power in sharing and supporting other people no matter where they are in their journeys.
We believe that every child, woman and man who suffers from sexual abuse shares a common bond, one of betrayal and suffering. By creating this community, we can survive–even thrive.
Is it too lofty of a goal to think we can change the course of sexual abuse in America? Can we do something to reduce its numbers? We hope so.
We believe if we communicate, we create. And we hope to create something amazing with Healing Sisters.

Dear Stacey & Kristen, I am writing to congratulate you both on the admirable work that you have done in championing the cause of the abused – physically, emotionally, psychologically and sexually. I have just concluded your book, Stacey, – I Shot Daddy – and I truly admire your candour and courage in relating what has been a horrendous and heart-breaking story of betrayal and cruelty. As a Catholic priest, I am particularly impressed with your magnanimity in forgiving your father and your firm resolve to work for the liberation of the countless who are helpless, defenceless and voiceless. “Evil thrives when the good do nothing,” so said Martin Luther King Jr. I am fully confident that you will, true to your word and the reassuring trust of Governor Blunt, make a vital difference in the lives of victims of abuse throughout the world. May God bless you both, Stacey and Kristen, and bring to fruition the good work that he has initiated in and through you. You have the assure of my prayers, good wishes and blessings always.

Dear Stacey, I just finished watching your story on 20/20. I had to tell you immediately that you are an inspiration to all women, to all sisters. I too have a sister and I feel that you did what you had to do. I think you’re amazing! Rather than sit in prison all those years, unjustly! – you chose to keep the one freedom that you had; your choices, your sanity. I feel like I know you! 😄 I wish I had been on your jury all those years ago.
I became so angry at the prosecutor after watching 20/20 – your story and I suppose he was only doing his job but that’s exactly why our legal system still needs changes! If the entire thing played out differently and you had managed to convince someone before that fateful night, maybe a teacher let’s say, then that very same near-sided ignorant prosecutor would have put all his energy into putting your father behind bars for as long as he possibly could have! Have you ever thought of that? This is why our legal system needs to make severe changes. Punishing you in the first place was so very wrong. As a sister, as a mother and as a woman I want to hug you and tell you that women everywhere love you. So consider yourself hugged! And as for the love? I’m sure you’re feeling it. 😊. If there is anything I could ever do to help you, assist you in any way – call on me. If for example you need someone to stuff envelopes, make phone calls or whatever for possibly working on new legislation I am here, ready! God bless you, Kim Stoner-Short @
